Vol 7 n° 1 - Early stages of schizophrenia

ear Colleagues,
Although schizophrenia is a relatively widespread disorder, its forms can differ in
terms of clinical expression, the timing of the diagnosis, the duration of the disease, and
the patient’s environment.
The physician involved in the treatment of this condition may have many questions:
• Are there factors that trigger schizophrenia?
• Are there environmental conditions that reinforce or modify certain aspects of the
disease?
• Are there premorbid manifestations before the first episode of schizophrenia?
• Are there early markers that could be used to confirm the diagnosis of the psychotic
state?
• Is the presence of cognitive disorders a risk factor or a symptom of the disease?
In all cases, the main problem is to establish the diagnosis of a schizophrenic state
as early as possible, and to know which treatment is best to use in the early stage of the
disease. This is why we decided to address these questions in this issue of
Dialogues in
Clinical Neuroscience devoted to the Early stages of schizophrenia.
We would like to thank Profs Michael Davidson and Carol Tamminga for their
work in coordinating this issue with articles written by the most prestigious leaders in
the field.
Yours sincerely,
